The Metropolitan Design Center is a design and research based institution within the University of Minnesota. As such, the center is subject to yearly academic reviews by the College of Deans.
In addition to the scrutiny of the College of Deans, the MDC is reviewed by the Metropolitan Design Advisory Board (MDAB). The MDAB is comprised of 10 -12 people, approximately two-thirds of whom are local or regional practitioners and other interested community members. The remaining members include faculty affiliates. The MDAB helps to connect the programs of the MDC and the University to the wider community. The Board acts as an advisory body to the MDC Director in achieving the objectives of the center including evaluating the quality of work produced at the center, and obtaining meaningful projects that serve a variety of communities. The Board serves as a guiding platform for expanding the vision and mission of the center.
The MDAB strengthens our links to the professions and the broader community, and provides feedback on the relationship of the MDC Certificate in Metropolitan Design and the MSMD programs to the needs of potential employers. The MDAB also assists with recruitment and, when possible, help with the placement of students in internship positions related to their interests.
