Star Tribune Covers MDC Idea for I-35W Freeway Lid
This concept for the I-35W freeway lid was first concieved by architecture students at the College of Design. The University of Minnesota’s Minnesota Design Center has done further work to refine and develop the work. Read full article.
“By developing the air rights above highways in areas of high demand, we can generate revenue that can help us repair our state’s roads and other infrastructure,” said Tom Fisher, dean of the College of Design at the U. “We also wanted to show what a family-friendly neighborhood in the city might be like, with child-safe playspace separated from traffic.”

MDC at 2014 Community Building Event
Metropolitan Design Center exhibited two architectural models at the 2014 Community Building event held at IDS Center on September 24-25th. One was a model of Prospect Park North and the other was a concept for a freeway lid in the Downtown St. Paul Capitol Area.
MDC Contributes to Minnesota's Proposal to Host EXPO-2023
The Minnesota Design Center is proud to participate in Minnesota's proposal to host Expo 2023 - a World's Fair. This is an exciting opportunity to rethink Minnesota's future and to spur progress on the infrastructure our region's institutions and companies will need to continue to grow and thrive.
