- Certificate in Metropolitan Design
This certificate program started in the 2005-2006 academic year, and was directed by Ann Forsyth, who established the program and was also on the Faculty Oversight Committee.
- Embrace Open Space
The Design Center is a partner in the Embrace Open Space campaign, coordinated by the McKnight Foundation.
- Editorships
Former Design Center director Ann Forsyth is co-editor of Progressive Planning magazine (2002-) and recent co-editor of Planning Theory Journal (2000-2005)
- Minnesota Design Team
This program is for students wishing to receive credits for Minnesota Design Team visits. To receive one credit U of M CDES Students need to:
- Be currently registered CDES students (M. Arch., MLA, BED, BS Architecture, BA Architecture).
- Prepare an independent study proposal and submit it BEFORE the workshop.
- Attend the workshop preparation meeting and the entire workshop and participate actively as judged by the team leaders.
- Read the MDT handbook and write a short reflection paper on it.
- Read two articles on the MDT and another major book on the topic of urban design (list of options to be supplied by the faculty advisor) and write a second short paper reflecting on the workshop in the context of the readings.
- Mississippi River Design Initiative
The Mississippi River Design Initiative is a multi-collegiate project hosted by the College of Design at the University of Minnesota. The Initiative strengthens the connections between the University, the Mississippi River, and the communities and organizations along the river.
