The Design Center Image Bank contains over 17,000 images, including low-level oblique aerial photographs and eye-level images. The focus of the collection is the Twin Cities metropolitan region in Minnesota and dates from the early 1990s through the present. Both built and natural environments are included. We hope that the collection will serve not only as an archive of change in the Twin Cities but also as a tool for those pursuing better urban design.
The collection can be searched in two ways: the "Best of" slide shows or the online search function. The slide shows provide easy access to some of the premier images in the collection under topic headings such as "Growth/Sprawl" and "Innovative Developments." The search function provides access to the entire collection and allows the user to specify what information is desired in the slide. For example, you could search for images that include the "Mississippi River," Shepard Road," and "St. Paul." Both options are available on the navigation bar to the left.
Medium resolution images are approximately 400KB jpeg files, 600 x 800 pixels. They are suitable for full-screen PowerPoint presentations and small prints. Higher resolution images are suitable for large-scale printing or where better image quality is needed and are 18MB TIFF files, 3072 x 2048 pixels.
