For each image we have included information that will assist the Image Bank user in (1) obtaining useful search results and (2) help him or her determine the image location. For example, the intersection of major roads captured in an image is usually included in the database to help pinpoint the image location. The direction the photo was taken and, where possible, the names of landmarks such as schools, churches, libraries, and community centers are also included. Large structures such as the Cathedral of St. Paul or the Minnesota History Center were easy to label as they are well known landmarks; small neighborhood churches were much more difficult to accurately name, especially if we were unfamiliar with the neighborhood. We have included as much information as we reasonably could.
Information used in cataloguing each image came from a variety of resources including GIS data; local documents such as comprehensive plans; street maps; and high-altitude aerial photographs.
