The Field, Regina, Northrop Neighborhood, located in south Minneapolis, is experiencing commercial revitalization. The Field, Regina, Northrop Neighborhood Group (FRNNG) owns a piece of land at the entrance to the neighborhood. The Business Committee facilitated a community input process to determine the best use for funds. The process revealed that residents would like to develop a welcome garden and signage for the perimeter of the neighborhood. The group plans to use
Neighborhood Revitalization Program (NRP) funds, which are available for projects that benefit the overall neighborhood.
The FRNNG Business Committee contacted the Design Center seeking assistance in designing the welcome garden that will become a gateway to the neighborhood. In order to help the neighborhood group come up with an overall vision for the site, the design team created three design options for the group to review. Each of the options explored how to use public art as a gateway. The design team also created signage options that can be used throughout the neighborhood. The FRNNG will use the design options to come to consensus about the park design, as well as to seek additional funding for the park.
