Direct Design Assistance: Improving Green Connections between Anderson School and Powderhorn Park, Minneapolis, MN, 2006

Hennepin County Public Works is interested in improving the pedestrian connection between Anderson School and Powderhorn Park in South Minneapolis. Working with several stakeholder groups, the County would like to help create a pedestrian friendly connection and improve the green space in this area.

The Design Center created three route options for the street level connection between Anderson School and Powderhorn Park. The designs incorporate traffic calming, greening, pedestrian improvements, and ideas for a pedestrian-friendly crossing at Lake Street. The concepts use sketches and conceptual plans to illustrate various points along the routes. The Design Center also created concepts that include programmatic elements for the former Cepro grain elevator site.

The County will use the designs to allow the various stakeholder groups to come to consensus on which route should be further developed as the primary pedestrian path in this area. A consultant will then create detailed plans and drawings for the route.
