Direct Design Assistance: Courtyard Design Options, St. Paul, MN, 2006

The Hestia CDC has two residential rental properties located in St. Paul's eastside. The apartments have a shared courtyard that is currently separated by a chain link fence because the buildings formerly had separate owners. The CDC asked the Design Center to explore design options that will connect the buildings, improve the aesthetics of the property, and give the residents an outdoor space they can enjoy.

The Design Center created three conceptual design options for the courtyard. The concepts include play space for children, basketball space, gathering spaces, and garden space.

Outcome : The Hestia CDC will work with volunteers to refine the concepts in order to construct the courtyard.

Credits: The project team included Ann Forsyth, Katie Thering, Kristin Raab, and Nishi Mishra.
