Direct Design Assistance: District 1 Mapping Project, St. Paul, MN, 2006
St. Paul's District 1 has an increasingly diverse population with different needs. The District Council has two major goals: 1) meet the needs of all its residents, and 2) preserve the unique physical environment of its neighborhoods. The District 1 Community Council asked the Design Center to create a series of maps to serve as working tools.
The neighborhoods in District 1 include Highwood, Battle Creek, Conway, and Eastview. The district includes Battle Creek Regional Park and Pigs Eye Lake, among other parks and natural areas.
The Design Center created the following five maps:
- Demographics (race and income) (1.87 MB)
- Block Club Locations (1.95 MB)
- Community Assets (2.09 MB)
- Business Nodes/Commercial areas (1.99 MB)
- Map of Apartment Building Locations (1.91 MB)
Outcome: The Council uses the maps to plan for the needs of the neighborhood and for strategic planning.
