Direct Design Assistance: City of Maplewood Safety Audit and Site Plan Review Materials, Maplewood, MN, 2006

The City of Maplewood is interested in improving the safety of some of their existing public spaces by using landscaping to reduce the areas for potential crime. They are also interested being proactive and reducing the potential crime risks by incorporating CPTED principles into their future developments.

The Design Center used existing safety-audits and site plan review checklists to create a user-friendly checklist for both pre and post construction. The safety audit was tested on a pedestrian path between the Gateway Trail and Carriage Homes development in Maplewood. The Design Center also created landscaping guidelines with an emphasis on safety.
