Direct Design Assistance: Design Options for Lion's Park, Scandia, MN, 2006

Lions Park in Scandia sits near the downtown and covers approximately eight acres. The park is currently undeveloped and consists primarily of wooded areas and a wetland. A recent buckthorn removal project cleared out parts of the park, creating the opportunity to enhance the usability of the park. The Scandia parks and recreation committee asked the Design Center to create design options to make the park more useable and accessible to the community.

The Design Center created three design concepts for the park based on the following three themes:

The committee combined elements from the designs to create the final conceptual plan:

Outcome: The designs will be used to gather community input on the elements that community members would like to see included in the park. The parks and recreation committee will then carry the preferred designs forward.

Credits: The project team included Katie Thering, Ann Forsyth, Laura Baker, and Ed D'Sousa.
