Direct Design Assistance: Visual Preference Survey for Yards and Open Spaces, Tree Trust, Minneapolis, MN, 2007

The Tree Trust, a nonprofit organization located in St. Paul, is working with a team of community leaders and consultants on the Hawthorne Eco-Village Development in North Minneapolis. The Hawthorne Eco-Village will include housing and shared open space, while also revitalizing existing homes in the area. The Tree Trust is interested in gaining public input on what amenities the community would like to see in the public areas such as open spaces and streets. In addition, the Tree Trust is working with existing homeowners to improve the landscaping in their yards. They asked the Design Center to create a visual preference survey for both the shared open spaces and for individual homeowners. The surveys will help the design team to understand the community needs and wants for this area, and will give the Tree Trust guidance when working to improve the landscaping in individual yards.
