Sustainable Yard Design Series
March 2005 : Updated January 2007

The Sustainable Yard Design Series is a thirteen-topic handout about creating and maintaining a yard. The handout focuses on how to design a home landscape that serves the needs of the homeowner and functions ecologically. Topics range from how to design a yard to sustainable yard and garden maintenance practices. Each topic includes background information, helpful tips, illustrations, and resources.

The series is aimed at residents on a budget and tailored to the Frogtown neighborhood in St. Paul, Minnesota; however, much of the information is applicable to residential landscapes throughout Minnesota and beyond. While the series was written with the beginning gardener in mind, topics are covered in enough detail to provide useful information to gardeners with more advanced skill levels.
